Because they are plump nuggets of ‘squeaky’ flavour, we call our cheese curds SqueaK’rs. This is cheese in its natural shape before being pressed into blocks. Great for snacking, they make the most noise when eaten fresh from our Factory Cheese Shop. With its mild, salty taste and springy texture, SqueaK’rs curds are a family favorite. Try melting them on french fries with some hot gravy poured on top for a classic poutine.
Squeaky Tip! The squeak is less pronounced when cold. To bring back some of the legendary squeak let your cheese warm at room temperature for 20-30 minutes or warm very briefly in the microwave.
Breaded Cheese Curds
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup all purpose flour
2 cups plain bread crumbs, extra fine
2 teaspoons garlic powder
1 kg Bothwell SqueaK’rs
Beat eggs and salt together. Put flour in a separate container. Mix bread crumbs and garlic in a third container. Roll 5-8 SqueaK'rs in flour and shake off excess. Dip them in egg and drain. Roll them in bread crumbs until fully coated. Dip them into egg mixture again, drain and then roll them into bread crumbs a second time until coated. Repeat procedure until all curds are breaded twice. Spread out breaded curds on baking sheets and freeze. Deep fry from frozen at 375 degrees F for approximately 90 seconds. Drain and serve.
